Toronto Veterinary (Vet) Endoscopy Service
Veterinary Endoscope Specialist in Toronto
Veterinary endoscopy services are becoming increasingly popular among clinicians. As a minimally invasive procedure, endoscopy is a reliable option for looking inside cavities and organs in order to diagnose and treat disease. It is also useful for removing foreign bodies and obtaining tissue samples of patients. It significantly reduces the risk of long anesthetic periods and the pain and discomfort of large incisions.
Luisa Alvarez, DVM, performs endoscopy procedures on the upper GI tract, colon, respiratory tract, ears and urinary tract of small animals. She’s proud to offer a large variety of veterinary-designed Karl Storz endoscopy equipment. These pieces include:
- Flexible 9 mm diameter x 140 cm long video endoscope
- Rigid 30 degree 1.9 mm diameter x 30 cm long endoscope
- Xenon light source
- Video camera and monitor
- Video/picture capturing device
- Suction pump
- Foreign body forceps
- Biopsy forceps

Upper Respiratory/ Bronchoscopy (includes laryngeal, tracheal and bronchial evaluation) is indicated in patients with respiratory disease and allows evaluation of laryngeal function, integrity of tracheal ring, presence on inflammation and secretions. It is also a way to obtain fluids for cytological evaluation.
Cystoscopy (Transurethral Cystoscopy) is indicated in patients with signs like hematuria, strangurea, dysurea, pollakiurea and urinary incontinence. Cystoscopy is useful in the diagnosis of anatomical abnormalities, inflammatory changes and neoplasia.
Otoscopy provides excellent visualization of the ear canal and tympanic membrane. It allows flushing of the ear, removal of debris, foreign body and biopsies.
